Hello readers,
Edit 230421:
PPS. April and I attended the National Canadian Film Day event at the Brampton Library’s Cyril Clarke Theatre--to watch her first film screening!
The music video for “Goblin” received cheers and applause from an audience of other creators, Brampton Arts Organization staff and others from our community; I am so proud of April for her music and animations, and I am humbled and thankful to have had the opportunity to see the work of other local creators that evening.
Here is a list of all the awesome films that were shown and the creators as on the event’s programme, along with a few of my thoughts on each of them because they were just that good;
. Competitor by Dilveer Virdi @dilveerv . The open ending did a fantastic job at putting the viewer in the basketball player’s shoes, making one contemplate about choosing between their dreams and their family.
. Friendly Visit by Siddarth Nair @sidnair24 . I loved the composition of the shots, and the dialogue felt funny and natural given the history provided for the two main characters which, April and I agreed, was a fun take on the consequences of not talking to your partner.
. Malcolm & Monique by Crystal C Rose @crystal.c.rose . The performances here were powerful, outlining and highlighting the objective and subjective expectations of being with another person while displaying the complexity of a relationship, without downplaying or villainizing Monique’s justified position. I, and I think everyone watching, liked this one as the crowd had shared a laugh.
. Love is You by Latitia Osbourne @tish.speaks.truth . A beautiful short documentary recording the relationship of the filmmaker’s parents, it was inspiring and anyone could see the love the two have for each other.
. Alienated City by Gladys Lou, @gladysgoldfish . Striking dance visuals and iconic locations lended to the memorable shots of this film.
. What will you do when I’m gone? by Haaris Qadr @haarisqadri. A doctor's trip showing the duality in parental anxiety, which I thought did a wonderful job at showing the dependency and reliance established between an ailing parent and their adult children.
. On The Fence by Paula Ner Dormiendo @paulanerdormiendo . The depiction of cultural dysphoria was powerful with its depiction of an existential crisis about heritage where one feels disconnected from their social identity, which is a topic that is relatable to me and many people I know, though not everyone. The framing of one in front of their childhood had, to me, a double meaning, the first being on topic of the disconnection or disassociation, and the second having to do with one’s childhood being one’s true heritage, background or identity, rather than whatever one was told by relatives or people from the same cultural background as oneself.
.Customized by Devani Dianna, Neha Modgil & Coeli Myx @DeadlightFilms @nehamodgilofficial @coelimyx . I loved seeing how these filmmakers displayed the protagonist's doubts in a visual and psychological way, which created very engaging scenes that made me, the viewer, focus in on the subtle details being shown.
. Fractured: A Broken School System by David Peddie @peddie_d . Thought provoking and nothing but honest; the public school system, the way children learn and the way we are taught to teach others needs to become more personalized and individuated.
.Near and Far by Vasilis Glezakos @floatingheadvideo . The staging and pacing were perfect, where the depressive awkward moment in the literal background of a party in the foreground made it hard to see the protagonist’s emotions in a literal way.
. Goblin by April Salisbury-White @electricarmchair . Saving the best for last, the evening's only animated film closed out the night with laughs and positive comments being made during the end of April's screening, the height of the audience's reaction being when the Goblin's gift reveals the shadows' inner identities.
Thanks to the Brampton Arts Organization for the opportunity and for hosting the event!
Original post below:
Since the last Roadmap Update, I took the opportunity to collect my todo list together for this Roadmap, where I have been updating the front and back matter of my books to be unified with what's seen online on profile bios, while also tidying up widgets by condensing them into pages. Let's get into what's new on HaikuPrajna.
First on our todo list, April and I are excited to announce our participation in the Brampton Library's 2023-2024 Local Author Showcase! The collected three parts of Together in Forever will be featured at in the library's physical and digital catalog, just like Escape Perennial City and Fishing for Caribou was last year; in addition, we intend to host a booth at the Showcase during one of the Farmers Market weekends--more details will be shared closer to the event!
Next, before any further announcements, let's outline the latest Project Roadmap. In addition to being laid out in release order, these projects are organized into a hierarchy that encompasses the entirety of my work, which I wish to reflect in both the Roadmap and in the projects themselves going forward.
The Structural Hierarchy looks like this;
. The A² Production Team {parent company}
.. HaikuPrajna {publication} . Allen W. McLean {author}
... Project Trinity {imprint}
.... Fluke {series} . ULTRAVIOLET {story} . BATT-LE Colosseum {miniseries} . Etc
.... The Wisps Book {series} . Tomothy . Ado . Etc
... HaikuPrajna Collection {Imprint}
.... Elephant in the Room {series} . Poetry and reviews
To get off the rails a little, instead of having to wait to write projects in chronological order, larger stories are being broken down into episodic parts of a series that connect to a larger narrative through the different series, which take place in different times and places, within the rest of the imprint that has the working title of Project Trinity. Stories like Together in Forever, Fluke, and The Wisps Book are examples of this style. Fishing for Caribou and the SM-SARA Collections are productions from both imprints.
The actual Project Roadmap is organized by release order.

I am inspired by comic book solicitations and github snapshots for this potential endeavor, and I intend for this to be part of a larger content push that I hope will produce more content for this blog.
[The Book]
... On my writing philosophy, based on my interpretation of other's systems, which will be rife with mistakes and blunders, where one will be recommended and encouraged to research the Source by oneself.
[Re-releases]
I realize I keep delaying the second edition of Elephant in the Room, so I am combining tasks; alongside that second edition, the digital exclusive catalog will be re-released as paperbacks starting with the triple feature of Escape Perennial City: KID: A Edition, which will condense the SM-SARA: KID: A Edition ebook into my first novel for the collected Richard Abendsen story. Escape Perennial City: Kid: A Edition will release in ebook, paperback and hardcover formats.
Future re-releases will be announced in an incremental basis.
...
In addition to these projects, a project I have referred to as The List has evolved into a group of series within the HaikuPrajna Collection, including The Playlist for music reviews and haiku.
Within The Games List, The Bird will begin chronicling my chess dot com misadventures, including all my blunders and victories in an attempt at improving my game.
Another feature in The List will be a haiku series, titled The Clay Journal, based on the polymer clay figurines April and I have been designing. Fourlief the Leprechaun is the basis of our first line of clay charms that will be available on Etsy and in person at future market events around the Toronto area. The intention is to form a line of figures based on our work which can also include other designs as we come up with them!
These series will be collected as separate HaikuPrajna Collections. More info will be shared this month.
...
And now I have run out of time. Thank you for reading this HaikuPrajna Project Roadmap Update. I know I'm not too active on socials, but I still appreciate connecting with others and I appreciate the support of those who are getting our work. I see you, I am thankful for your readership.
