20210109 WIP Update - The Edwin Tripp Institution for Adults with Telekinetic Abilities

HaikuPrajna
Unable to change/ one's facticity. One copes/ only with the angst.
(The Edwin Tripp Institution for Adults with Telekinetic Abilities)

Hello good readers!

The project I have been focusing on the most the past two weeks is my next novel idea, the working title is "Orson Tripp", and I wanted to log an update on what I have thus far.

The story takes place in a distant future winter at "The Edwin Tripp Institution for Adults with Telekinetic Abilities", situated in what was present-day northern Ontario. Eloise Orson is the newest of Overseer Edwin Tripp's inpatients, all of whom he personally treats for their maladapted telekinesis. Conflict centers on Eloise's angst over being born with T-K, which Tripp can only remedy and help her cope with.

Admittedly, I lack much sharable content, however I am excited to see this project to its completion, I just wanted to get "Orson Tripp" to production-level so that I could lean on it while focusing on editing Spear-thrower and sharing SM-SARA. Tomorrow, I will fill in some plot details.

PS. This story was adapted from an earlier idea of mine, which was posted on our Patreon!

20210624 - HaikuPrajna Project Roadmap

 Hello!

In this post I'll be providing updates to you on upcoming projects, and we will be focusing on revealing the current HaikuPrajna Project Roadmap. I hope you will look forward to what we have to offer and will find a story that suits your interests.

To start, I am honored to officially announce our upcoming book releases. Please take a look at the following two blurbs;

"'This document is a transcript of a recorded remote viewing.'

A teleporting man had tried to escape the city, into the Wasteland, but he was prevented by the walls. The government and its telekinetic citizens refused to believe, confirm or deny his discovery. The party responsible expends themselves against Charley Finch to silence him, forcing him to evade the police Chief and their department throughout the city. Citywide property damage and injury led Charley to decide to appeal with the Mayor at City Hall.

There, he learns how to overcome these hindrances and strives to escape Perennial City."

Escape Perennial City : Superhero Science Fiction, Adult Speculative Fiction

Planned release : August 2021

"The Spearthrower travels across the land.

Having left his family's cave, a paleolithic man searches for other cave-people with the hope of learning about their ways of life. His own nomadic system follows a routine of hunting, crafting and sleeping. Along his journey, Spearthrower makes friends with club-bearing caves that teach him cutting edge techniques such as cooking and sewing. On his way back home he learns how to cope with the changes and loss that accompanies growing old. During this time, Spearthrower passes on his system to his friends as thanks for the wisdom that he had gained."

Fishing for Caribou : Magical Realism, "Metaphysical/Visionary" Fiction

Planned release : October 2021

Formal release date announcements and cover reveals for both projects will arrive in the next few weeks. Each project's respective pages will also be updated, so please check them out at the top of the page for more information. These are the two projects that I am most proud of to share with you. I hope everyone is just as excited for our upcoming books as we are.

Next, with the updating of our upcoming releases, I would like to tease a couple of projects that are in active development. Due to the nature of work-in-progresses, as always, the information that you are about to read is liable to change.

Project "Fluke" is an anthology of stories that I am currently drafting and outlining which follows a cast of characters who are tied together thematically and narratively by the titular character. The book is framed by the appearance-altering Fluke's misadventures that serves as a chronology for the other superheroes' stories. "Fluke" is planned for a Summer 2022 release.

Another WIP that is being outlined may be familiar to past readers. I have completely reworked "Orson Tripp" from the ground up, and I have a solid outline for the novel's overarching plotline. As of writing, I am focused on outlining the chapters before heading into drafting. Below is a short summary;

"Eloise Orson is arriving at the Edwin Tripp Institution for Adults with Telekinetic Abilities. The Institution was founded to develop such abilities. Eloise is in disbelief over having reality altering powers and being in the Institution. The other inpatients all have reasons to want to be there and receive treatment. Once Eloise convinces the others of Edwin's illusion, he abuses their dependence on him to turn the inpatients into Nightmares based on their desires and powers."

"Orson Tripp" is planned for a late 2022 release.

Before I end this post, I would also like to tease a few future projects. A sequel for Escape Perennial City is in early stages of development, and a new novel that will act as a continuation of Fluke, Orson Tripp and the sequel for Escape Perennial City has been planned. Hardcover copies of existing and future books are also slowly rolling out, along with Kindle Vella editions (when the service goes global).

To cap off these updates, I would like to thank you for reading. We have sold over fifty copies of our books! I have the continued hope that everyone will continue reading and enjoying HaikuPrajna as much as I have while writing it.

Stay safe,

Allen W. McLean

20210111 - Non-linear Path

HaikuPrajna
Learn to love oneself,/ to accept, and to control./ Transcend one's orbit.
(Non-linear Path)

Hello good readers,

Logging updates on "Orson Tripp", the novel I have been outlining. I touched on the story and plot, which thematically is about desire and dysphoria in the lense of mindfulness. The inpatients, especially Eloise, learn how to accept who they are. To avoid being too derivative of other "learning to love yourself" stories, I want to highlight the characters coping with their unchangeable facts so that they can instead focus on what can be changed.

"Orson Tripp" is still a ways off; I put most of my energy toward the upcoming "SM-SARA" Collection and plotting "Orson Tripp" so that I have a new script to play with while editing "Spear-thrower" and pitching "Perennial City".

20210110 WIP Update - Orson v. Tripp

HaikuPrajna
Ashamed to have such/ fantastic abilities./ Learning to control.
(Orson v. Tripp)

Hello good readers,

Is it weird to still greet you as "good readers"?

Logging plot details for the novel I am outlining right now, which is titled "Orson Tripp". The conflict centers on Eloise's desire to have been born without telekinesis, but her angst leads to her usage of her powers, and she shuns herself for it. Edwin Tripp, the Overseer of the Institution, develops the abilities of the inpatients at the expenses of their stability. The plot revolves around the daily life of the Institution while the inpatients learn to control the physical world with their minds.

Tomorrow, I'll go over the moral of the story and the themes, and maybe show some work.

20220419 - Project Roadmap (2022 04)

...
Progress reporting, \ organizing one’s presents. \ Thankful for sharing.
#HAIKUPRAJNA - Project Roadmap (2022 04)
...

Thank you for reading the latest update to the HaikuPrajna Project Roadmap release schedule. There are a number of exciting pieces of news to share in this post. This month is the third anniversary of the first HaikuPrajna poem to be shared online via Instagram! Please read to the end for details on Free Book Promotions from the Kindle ebook store in celebration of this anniversary!

First, leaking some news about an event at the local public library. Excited to announce that, later this year, "Fishing for Caribou" and "Escape Perennial City" will both be featured in the Brampton Library's Local Authors Showcase! For the following twelve months these books will be circulated in both physical and digital formats. According to an email from the library, an event is expected to take place in mid-June 2022. Further details will be revealed to you when they arrive.

Next, following the second edition releases of "Hector Blake" and the rest of "SM-SARA, Poetry and Other Stories" in March (https://haikuprajna.blogspot.com/2022/04/20220401-sm-sara-poetry-and-other.html), the release schedule has been updated with the following Project Roadmap:

. In summer 2022, the story “Together in Forever” will be released online beside the fourth HaikuPrajna Collection, which will contain book and comic reviews. (Together in Forever 2021 12 21 poem: https://haikuprajna.blogspot.com/2021/12/20211221-together-forever.html)

. The novel “Orson Tripp” is planned for October, and a revised second edition of “Elephant in the Room” will be shared in Fall 2022 with another online story, like “Together in Forever”, titled “Ultraviolet” which is part of the already-announced Project: "Fluke", an anthology of standalone stories that is framed by the appearance-altering Fluke's overarching misadventures, which is in drafting and editing stages. (Orson Tripp tag: https://haikuprajna.blogspot.com/search/label/Orson%20Tripp)

. Have packed Winter 2022 with another standalone story like “Together in Forever” with plans on either “Fluke” or the episodic “Bucket” Collection for December.

The more distant dates are more flexible than others, and there are expectations for at least one of these projects to be moved into 2023 or ‘24, as there are enough story outlines to release well beyond 2024.

To end things off, on April 23rd 2022 you can snag up to three ebooks for free for life, links below, and “Escape Perennial City” will be $0.99 on the digital US/EU Kindle store from April 23rd until the 30th. Shoutout to Goodreads for their 2022 “My Year in Books” page. Check out my stack here: [ https://www.goodreads.com/user/year_in_books/2022/83965332 ].

Last year I pledged to read two books a month, and I wrangled together twenty-seven books (which composed of two comics and one of my own releases, for an even twenty-four), you can check out that reading challenge at the end of my Goodreads Year in Books (linked above).

I keep comics that I read unlisted, for the most part, to avoid inflating my reading stats, but readers are free to browse my been-read comics shelf on Goodreads: [ https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/83965332-allen-mclean?order=d&ref=nav_mybooks&shelf=co-been-read&sort=rating&view=table ]

There is a Goodreads shelf for the books yet to be reviewed with a few from 2022 that I still need to do; most of the comics are probably able to be moved to my to-reread shelf. Check out the to-be-reviewed shelf here: [ https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/83965332-allen-mclean?ref=nav_mybooks&shelf=to-be-reviewed ]

I shake up my reading routine by rereading favourites and books that need a review, and you can view that shelf over here: [ https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/83965332-allen-mclean?ref=nav_mybooks&shelf=to-reread-and-review&sort=rating

Last year, I put together a shelf for the books that I wanted to read in 2022, and at its close I started putting together my 2023 shelf: [ https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/83965332-allen-mclean?ref=nav_mybooks&shelf=2023 ]

Thank you for reading, it is past time for an updated Project Roadmap, where we look forward into the future of HaikuPrajna and the books I am writing.

First off, "SM-SARA, Poems and Other Stories" will be getting a new print edition for its hardcover release that will contain the revised scripts from standalone editions of the stories, both of which will be available early 2022; next, Books IV, V and VI of the HaikuPrajna Collection are in first-draft stages with a book collecting book reviews and poetry, another book that contains some stories written for publications, and a third titled "Bucket and Train" by both April and myself, where I expect to release at least Books IV and V this year; and finally, both "Fluke" and "Orson Tripp" are aiming for late 2022 release days.

Last year I implemented a MailChimp widget on the site to replace the older email subscription systems, so I am asking all readers to please sign up to catch all of the upcoming sale dates on books that are already available on Kindle Unlimited and the Amazon store;

. eBook Free Fridays every week Elephant in the Room: Free every Saturday until February

. SM-SARA standalone $0.99 us\eu 0127-0203

. SM-SARA, Poems and Other Stories $0.99 eu 0211-18

. Fishing for Caribou $0.99 us\eu 0228-0307

. SM-SARA, Poems and Other Stories $0.99 us\eu 0314-0321

. Escape Perennial City $0.99 us\eu 0321-0328

. All books available here: https://www.amazon.com/Allen-W.-McLean/e/B0867C5D24

This post may be updated in the future to reflect changes regarding these sales.

If you have noticed a lack of newer poetry, it is because all of my WIPs are first drafts at the moment, which I am hoping will change soon; currently, I am focusing on more meaningful reposting associated with the catalog of books at large, where I have noted down anniversary dates for each book and will be teasing each as they come nearer.

That is it for the updates for now!

Once again, thank you for reading,

Allen W. McLean

These poems are based on my metaphysical magic realism novella, "Fishing for Caribou", and can be found in the third book of the HaikuPrajna Collection.

"Fishing for Caribou" eBook, paperback and hardcover are available through Amazon Kindle apps and devices; read with Kindle Unlimited: https://haikuprajna.blogspot.com/p/spear-thrower.html

#HAIKUPRAJNA - Forming Attractions
(Project Roadmap 2022 09)

Hello readers,

It is the end of summer and the beginning of the fall season here in Canada, meaning it is time for another roadmap update. First off; thank you for reading, everyone! There are now over 15,000 page views on the blog, with 500 Medium.com HaikuPrajna followers and another 300 newsletter subscribers on LinkedIn! Grateful for all of you, and hope you are enjoying the stories and book reviews.

In Summer 2022 we saw the release of "Together in Forever", a three part metaphysical short story about an interplanetary Pirate's quest to free their lover from a black hole, while we celebrated the first anniversary of Charley Finch in "Escape Perennial City"; Spring 2022 brought us the second editions of the second HaikuPrajna Collection, and the previous November we released "Fishing for Caribou", a collection of stories about a prehistoric Spearthrower.

To note down important anniversary dates, here is a recap of where we are coming from.

. [HaikuPrajna Day, first IG post 2019 04 23] [SM-SARA 2019 06 16] [Patreon 2019 11 10]

. [Elephant in the Room 2020 04 04] [Blogspot 2020 12 02]

. [SM-SARA, Poems and Other Stories on Amazon 2021 03 03] [Escape Perennial City 2021 06 13] [Fishing for Caribou 2021 11 28]

. [The Artifact 2022 03 03 . SM-SARA KID: A Edition 2022 03 10 . The Cannon 2022 03 13 . Hector Blake 2022 03 22 . SM-SARA, Poetry and Other Stories 2022 04 01] [Together in Forever Pt. I 2022 06 16 . Pt II 2022 06 28 . Pt III 2022 07 25 . Paperback and Hardcover 2022 08 01]

Looking towards the rest of this year, readers can look forward to the Fall 2022 releases of short stories "Ultraviolet", a visionary story about a metaphysical superhero called Imprint, and "Tomothy and the Overseer of the Forest", the first story in a series titled "The Wisps" which centre around a Forest of creatures known as Terraforms that April and I are working on together. "BATT-LE Colosseum", another story that takes place alongside "Ultraviolet", will be released during the Winter of 2022-23, with the second edition of "Elephant in the Room" to help round off the year. The next Collection of poetry, with the book reviews, is being held until 2023, so to collect 2022's Year in Books.

Below is an updated release roadmap of projects that are in active development.

Being edited to release

. Tomothy - 2022 09

. Ultraviolet - 2022 10

. BATT-LE Colosseum - Winter 2022-23

. Elephant in the Room 2nd edition - 2022

. Reviews Collection - 2023, to capture 2022 ones

Being drafted

. Orson Tripp

. Bucket and Train

. More Project: Fluke short stories like Ultraviolet and BATT-LE Colosseum, which include sequels to Hector Blake and KID: A

. The Wisps; . Falgara . Regica . Simongia

More projects are being outlined, including sequels to Project:Fluke and Escape Perennial City!

In addition to these projects, there is a plethora of tasks to-do for the blog which are being tackled. The layout of the blogspot site was updated with a kind-of pinned post with important links, which is being upkept by changing the date of the "pinned" post whenever a new post is shared, as Google had removed the previous workaround of setting a far-future date. The Book Reviews page has been refreshed with a description and links. New book trailers and updated pages are being worked on. Pages for freelancing and for video game reviews are also in the pipeline. Price tiers on Kindle ebooks have been introduced to keep costs fair. Finally, RSS has allowed this blog's feed to also be tracked on WordPress while HaikuPrajna expands to more social platforms.

The main goal at the moment is to fill every day with these Bite-sized Insights. Free Fridays are a manifestation of this, and more free ebook days will soon occupy the rest of the week. Every month is a new opportunity to endeavour and complete one's goals. From sales to new releases, constant experiences occupy the days, weeks and months with Alchemic Wisdom from HaikuPrajna.

Again, thank you for reading, everyone.

(New Year's Day)

Happy New Year!

This year I am endeavoring to either publish or self-publish my first novel, "Perennial City", while I draft my Next Big Novel Idea, "Orson Tripp". In the meanwhile, later this month April and I will be self-publishing the second book in the HaikuPrajna Collection, "SM-SARA, Poems and Other Stories", AND we are currently editing the third book, "Spear-thrower", which we also hope to release during 2021.

Today's HaikuPrajna is based on Spearthrower celebrating the new year with the armor-makers. I have also attached some pictures from April's and my holidays.

Check back tomorrow for more #MyYearInBooks!

Hello readers,

Edit 230421:

PPS. April and I attended the National Canadian Film Day event at the Brampton Library’s Cyril Clarke Theatre--to watch her first film screening!

The music video for “Goblin” received cheers and applause from an audience of other creators, Brampton Arts Organization staff and others from our community; I am so proud of April for her music and animations, and I am humbled and thankful to have had the opportunity to see the work of other local creators that evening.

Here is a list of all the awesome films that were shown and the creators as on the event’s programme, along with a few of my thoughts on each of them because they were just that good;

. Competitor by Dilveer Virdi @dilveerv . The open ending did a fantastic job at putting the viewer in the basketball player’s shoes, making one contemplate about choosing between their dreams and their family.

. Friendly Visit by Siddarth Nair @sidnair24 . I loved the composition of the shots, and the dialogue felt funny and natural given the history provided for the two main characters which, April and I agreed, was a fun take on the consequences of not talking to your partner.

. Malcolm & Monique by Crystal C Rose @crystal.c.rose . The performances here were powerful, outlining and highlighting the objective and subjective expectations of being with another person while displaying the complexity of a relationship, without downplaying or villainizing Monique’s justified position. I, and I think everyone watching, liked this one as the crowd had shared a laugh.

. Love is You by Latitia Osbourne @tish.speaks.truth . A beautiful short documentary recording the relationship of the filmmaker’s parents, it was inspiring and anyone could see the love the two have for each other.

. Alienated City by Gladys Lou, @gladysgoldfish . Striking dance visuals and iconic locations lended to the memorable shots of this film.

. What will you do when I’m gone? by Haaris Qadr @haarisqadri. A doctor's trip showing the duality in parental anxiety, which I thought did a wonderful job at showing the dependency and reliance established between an ailing parent and their adult children.

. On The Fence by Paula Ner Dormiendo @paulanerdormiendo . The depiction of cultural dysphoria was powerful with its depiction of an existential crisis about heritage where one feels disconnected from their social identity, which is a topic that is relatable to me and many people I know, though not everyone. The framing of one in front of their childhood had, to me, a double meaning, the first being on topic of the disconnection or disassociation, and the second having to do with one’s childhood being one’s true heritage, background or identity, rather than whatever one was told by relatives or people from the same cultural background as oneself.

.Customized by Devani Dianna, Neha Modgil & Coeli Myx @DeadlightFilms @nehamodgilofficial @coelimyx . I loved seeing how these filmmakers displayed the protagonist's doubts in a visual and psychological way, which created very engaging scenes that made me, the viewer, focus in on the subtle details being shown.

. Fractured: A Broken School System by David Peddie @peddie_d . Thought provoking and nothing but honest; the public school system, the way children learn and the way we are taught to teach others needs to become more personalized and individuated.

.Near and Far by Vasilis Glezakos @floatingheadvideo . The staging and pacing were perfect, where the depressive awkward moment in the literal background of a party in the foreground made it hard to see the protagonist’s emotions in a literal way.

. Goblin by April Salisbury-White @electricarmchair . Saving the best for last, the evening's only animated film closed out the night with laughs and positive comments being made during the end of April's screening, the height of the audience's reaction being when the Goblin's gift reveals the shadows' inner identities.

Thanks to the Brampton Arts Organization for the opportunity and for hosting the event!

Original post below:

Since the last Roadmap Update, I took the opportunity to collect my todo list together for this Roadmap, where I have been updating the front and back matter of my books to be unified with what's seen online on profile bios, while also tidying up widgets by condensing them into pages. Let's get into what's new on HaikuPrajna.

First on our todo list, April and I are excited to announce our participation in the Brampton Library's 2023-2024 Local Author Showcase! The collected three parts of Together in Forever will be featured at in the library's physical and digital catalog, just like Escape Perennial City and Fishing for Caribou was last year; in addition, we intend to host a booth at the Showcase during one of the Farmers Market weekends--more details will be shared closer to the event!

Next, before any further announcements, let's outline the latest Project Roadmap. In addition to being laid out in release order, these projects are organized into a hierarchy that encompasses the entirety of my work, which I wish to reflect in both the Roadmap and in the projects themselves going forward.

The Structural Hierarchy looks like this;

. The A² Production Team {parent company}

.. HaikuPrajna {publication} . Allen W. McLean {author}

... Project Trinity {imprint}

.... Fluke {series} . ULTRAVIOLET {story} . BATT-LE Colosseum {miniseries} . Etc

.... The Wisps Book {series} . Tomothy . Ado . Etc

... HaikuPrajna Collection {Imprint}

.... Elephant in the Room {series} . Poetry and reviews

To get off the rails a little, instead of having to wait to write projects in chronological order, larger stories are being broken down into episodic parts of a series that connect to a larger narrative through the different series, which take place in different times and places, within the rest of the imprint that has the working title of Project Trinity. Stories like Together in Forever, Fluke, and The Wisps Book are examples of this style. Fishing for Caribou and the SM-SARA Collections are productions from both imprints.

The actual Project Roadmap is organized by release order.

... Outlines for these WIPs will be released for these stories to preserve the initial idea until they are produced. [The Book]

... On my writing philosophy, based on my interpretation of other's systems, which will be rife with mistakes and blunders, where one will be recommended and encouraged to research the Source by oneself.

[Re-releases]

I realize I keep delaying the second edition of Elephant in the Room, so I am combining tasks; alongside that second edition, the digital exclusive catalog will be re-released as paperbacks starting with the triple feature of Escape Perennial City: KID: A Edition, which will condense the SM-SARA: KID: A Edition ebook into my first novel for the collected Richard Abendsen story. Escape Perennial City: Kid: A Edition will release in ebook, paperback and hardcover formats.

Future re-releases will be announced in an incremental basis.

...

In addition to these projects, a project I have referred to as The List has evolved into a group of series within the HaikuPrajna Collection, including The Playlist for music reviews and haiku.

Within The Games List, The Bird will begin chronicling my chess dot com misadventures, including all my blunders and victories in an attempt at improving my game.

Another feature in The List will be a haiku series, titled The Clay Journal, based on the polymer clay figurines April and I have been designing. Fourlief the Leprechaun is the basis of our first line of clay charms that will be available on Etsy and in person at future market events around the Toronto area. The intention is to form a line of figures based on our work which can also include other designs as we come up with them!

These series will be collected as separate HaikuPrajna Collections. More info will be shared this month.

...

And now I have run out of time. Thank you for reading this HaikuPrajna Project Roadmap Update. I know I'm not too active on socials, but I still appreciate connecting with others and I appreciate the support of those who are getting our work. I see you, I am thankful for your readership.
